About Saco, Maine

Saco is the “sister city” to Biddeford. In Saco, you will find long stretches of beaches, great food, friendly neighbors and much more. The town of Saco is located at the mouth of the Saco River in southern Maine along the Atlantic Ocean, less than 20 minutes south of the Greater Portland area and less than two hours north of Boston, MA.

Home to a growing population of over 19,000, a revitalized and revamped factory district, a world-class education system, a scenic downtown, a thriving economy and plenty of recreational opportunities including fishing, hiking, biking and kayaking, the town of Saco has a lot to offer residents, visitors and businesses. Composed of 39 square miles, with farmland and resource protection areas to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and a historic and scenic Main Street in the center, Saco has a diverse landscape that has something for everyone.

Like many other communities in Maine, Saco’s once booming textile mill district has been converted into a combination of commercial, merchant, and residential units. While Saco  experienced  industrial and commercial growth, residential growth far outstripped the others. Saco is a wonderful community and has something to offer for everyone!
